Nintendo / HAL Laboratory. 21st Nov 2001 (JPN) 2nd Dec 2001 (NA) 24th May 2002 (UK/EU). It is worth pointing out that some DVD drives can actually rip Wii and GameCube games without the need for a Wii, though it only applies to a few specific drives. Getting the Best Performance Out of Dolphin. As an emulator, running Dolphin on a PC will give take a performance hit versus the original GameCube and Wii hardware.Game Ripping: Gamecube/Wii
Definitely the simplest platform for archiving/emulation if you have an old Wii. I got my entire Wii/Gamecube library backed up recently, and it barely took any longer than the time to scan the discs (9min GCN, 24min/45min Wii single/dual layer). PC disc drives are NOT recommended, I had two not work for me, but the Wii worked immediately…
Gamecube games are made on mini-DVD discs that hold up to 1.4 GB of data. Long periods of use can cause wear and tear on your Gamecube games that result in scratched or damaged discs. Creating a backup of your original Gamecube game lets you to replace the disc if your original disc becomes scratched or otherwise damaged. As you see, the process of ripping games is time-consuming and quite tiresome. There is an alternative way of obtaining GameCube and Wii games from the Internet. You can Google for either a specific game you want to play on the emulator or for GameCube/Wii games in general. GCMUtility is faulty. Dolphin is emulating correctly. The Wii in GameCube mode froze the same way as Dolphin did. I see three methods to rip game discs to images so I don’t see why we can’t have more than just the Dolphin compress option available, if there will exist a guide to compress disc images.
My test disc, in one of many failed PC drive rip attempts.
It is claimed that certain PC drives can rip GCN/Wii games. On Windows 7, I have tried one of these drives (a SATA drive, GH20NS15) and had it fail repeatedly with multiple pieces of software (Rawdump 2.1, 2.0, and friidump 0.5.3). On Windows XP, I have tried an IDE equivalent (also on confirmed lists), and it failed with all software as well.
Putting it back in the case did not improve ripping abilities…
Luckily, the alternative (that I resisted for so long) of softmodding your Wii is actually really easy.
A successful rip in progress!
Softmodding makes no hardware modifications, and basically just takes an older SD card firmware tweak (very easy, just sending the Wii a reset message from the LetterBomb website, then opening a file on the Wii) and having CleanRip on the SD card as well. That’s it! Took less than 30min to setup. Then you can rip any Wii or GCN game to the SD card using Homebrew Channel + CleanRip, and you have your fair use backup in case of fire/earthquakes.
Extra deets:
LetterBomb is at http://please.hackmii.com/ and just needs your Wii MAC address, easily found in the Wii network settings.
I used hackmii_installer_v1.2, which comes with both Homebrew Channel and BootMii too (don’t remember what I used BootMii for, but my notes say it was useful).
You probably have System Software 4.3 on the Wii, the latest update - from a number of years ago (2010). Mcafee wont download on mac att says software is not updated. The homebrew firmware update for this is the LetterBomb.
8GB SDHC card did not work for installation! Required 1GB SD card instead. Both worked for actual ripping (and Homebrew/CleanRip can be moved onto the Wii itself to make room for game files)
Adobe reader 9.0 download for mac.
Old Wiis are good because this breaks your warranty. Warranty only lasts 1yr anyways though.
Sometimes the games have to be split into parts, but you can merge them back together on Windows with command “copy /b file.part1 file.part2 file.part3 fileFinal.iso” where file is the file name, and fileFinal is where you want them merged. If requested, I have a batch file I can upload that does this in bulk, but unless you rip your whole library at once, doing this by hand isn’t so bad.
And that’s it! Mac os x download adobe air 20. If you have any other questions, Google first! This stuff is really well documented on http://wiibrew.org/ for everything I mentioned here. Any questions about my post specifically (and not Wii game ripping, which is all on wiibrew.org) you can reach me on gmail as BlinksTale.Ripping Gamecube Games Only

Ripping Gamecube Games On Pc I recently decided to experiment with a bit of gaming on linux, and I was wondering if it were possible to rip my gamecube games from their CDs and then use the to play games using dolphin emulator. After a bit of googling I found that there are many people who claim to have done it on Windows. So in the interest of finding out how to rip an .iso file from the disk I simply plopped it into my DVD drive to see what would pop up. When nothing happened I checked in the /media folder and found that nothing had happened, and the disk wouldn’t mount.
Any clue what the problem might be or how I might copy my disks to my computer?
I did a bit of research and I believe what I’m doing is legal since I own the disks, and I’m allowed to make backups for my own use.
